On Monday Phil, Parker and I took a bike ride down the Union Canal. The Union Canal starts a few blocks south of the west end of Princes Street and continues for 50 KM all the way to Glasgow. There are boats that ride on the canal for sight-seeing, dining, dancing and plays. Phil and I took a 30 KM round trip ride along the Union Canal (although we did not start out intending to ride so far!) to Ratho, west of Edinburgh. The trail was beautiful and the pathway was wide with only a few other riders and pedestrians. The canal pathway is generally flat with many bridges. We finally found a place to stop and eat in Ratho. We were there some time and had to really put on all the burners to get back into the city, pick up Harrison from school and make it downtown for a 4:00PM show at the Festival! We did it, but I for one was hurtin' by the end of the ride. I would definitely do this ride again and maybe one of these days we'll make it all the way to Glasgow! Check the links to read more about the Union Canal and Ratho.

The vegetation along the canal is beautiful and we stopped to pick and eat the wild blackberries growing along the pathway. Yum Yum! Parker was a great passenger on the ride and loved picking and eating the berries.
