Harriet's School

Well I've now begun my courses. The first ones were of the "stand and deliver" type and I had six hours of this type of lecture on one day! What I've noticed is that they pack a lot of information in a short time so I'll have some work to do after classes to make sure I stay up to speed with the course content. I did have one more interactive class at the beginning of the week, but not too much of a hit with the younger students who don't appreciate that interactive style. I definitely prefer this style the best. We haven't talked about assignments or exams yet, but I'm sure that will come up in short order. Happily, I have found a dissertation project. I'll be working with a senior lecturer in the Human Cognitive Neuropsychology program. I will be contrasting executive dysfunction, language disabilities and slow information processing among patients with Motor Neuron Disease (e.g. ALS). I have a lot of reading to do right now to get up to speed on the research in the area, but the project will only officially start in the spring. I was fortunate to get a project with a clinical focus as they were quite popular with my classmates. I'm looking forward to the challenges of learning in a new area of specialization.
