Arts and Culture

This week Harriet and Phil took turns to see an East Indian version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was interesting as the fairies did a lot of acrobatic tricks on hanging ropes and ribbons of cloth. If you didn't know the play it would be a little difficult to follow as the actors switched between variour Indian languages and English in the play.

Last week Harriet had the chance to take in a whopping 61/2 hours of both parts of the play Nicholas Nickleby - an adaptation of the book by Charles Dickens. The dialogue was a bit hard to follow at time with a combination of English accents, fast speech and an old English script. As well there were many inside jokes about London and the surronding areas that put the audience in stitches, but completely went over my head! This play has a lot of highs and lows with its mix of comedy, drama, and trajedy. I wanted to see this play as I had seen a recent movie adaptation of the book a few years ago and love the story. If you haven't seen the movie or get a chance to see the play or read the book, I highly recommend it.
