On Halloween night, we joined another family and went out "Guising" (Trick or Treating). They wear "fancy dress" (costumes) and go door to door to trick-or-treat. The main differences are that not many homes participate by handing out candy - especially because there are mainly flats rather than homes - so you have to pre-plan mainly with friends to visit each others homes. We did luck out and got a tip of one nearby street where there are a lot of kids and most families take part in trick-or-treating. Many of these flats showed they were participating by leaving their front door open and had "pumpkin lanterns" (jack-o-lanterns). The other main difference is that when kids say "trick-or-treat", the person will say "treat" and then the child will say a joke, or sing a song or present some other form of entertainment before getting some candy. The couple at a nearby B&B were particularly happy to see the kids all dressed up and made a big deal of everyone's act. Harrison had a few jokes and song that he had memorised to present for the occassion. Parker got treats with his cuteness!
