On November 5th, we celebrated our first Guy Fawkes Night. It is celebrated to commeorate the Gunpowder Plot was thwarted in the early 1605 to blow up the British Parliament. You can read more details on the link on the side. The night is celebrated with bonfires and setting off fireworks.
Here in Edinburgh it is legal to shoot off yourself. We went up to the top of Calton Hill (featured on our blog on September 23) with the family and got a great view of all the pockets of fireworks around the city and the ones people were setting off right up on the hill. We also saw a great bonfire nearby. The city sounded like it wan under seige and everyone was in great spirits. It was quite cold and windy up on the hill (as you may have heard Scotland has been getting very high winds lately), but we dressed up warm and all enjoyed the festive atmospher. The fun lasted for several nights before and after as everyone used up their cache of fireworks.
