Bike Trip from Linlithgow to Falkirk Wheel

On the Sunday we continued our adventures in the form of a bike trip along the final stretch of the Union Canal from Linlithgow to Falkirk. Linlithgow is another beautiful little town that Phil and the boys had visited before. Before heading to the canal we spent some time biking around the loch in front of Linlithgow palace. Then it was off to the Union Canal. The stretch we rode is 11 miles long and a nice flat ride. There is one long dark tunnel that was cut through the rocks near the end that is about half a mile long which was quite an experience to walk through.

The grand finale of the ride was the Falkirk Wheel, an marvel of engineering in which boats are transferred from the Union Canal above to the Forth and Clyde Canal about 79 feet below. We spent some time watching the wheel transferring the boats and taking a short rest before making our way to the train station in Falkirk for our return trip home. We were so impressed that Harrison kept pace for the entire 25 kilometers we road during the day!
