Summer break!

Congratulations to Harrison on finishing another year of school (P3 in the Scottish education system ... equivalent to Grade 2 in the Canadian system). This past year Harrison did a great job in improving his reading and writing skills. His strength seems to be math and he has developed a particular interest in archaeology (I believe in part through going to the Tutankhamun exhibit in London and in part because of the new Indiana Jones movie).

Good news is that Harrison will be continuing at school there next year where he is happy and he will continue with the same teacher in P4 ... which we as parents are really happy about since it provides a sense of continuity and since his teacher is fantastic! Something we found very "classy" was on the final day of school there was a person playing the bagpipes dressed in full highland gear who piped out the graduating class on their last day as they left to move onto high school next year. Cool, huh?!

Harrison's extra-curricular activities are also wrapping up for summer with swimming lessons having concluded and acting / drama lessons finishing this weekend. This week (the first week of summer break) Phil has taken the boys to some of their favorite places including a water park and a museum about the Earth and it's various ecosystems.

We have decided to remain living in Edinburgh where Harrison is settled in school and where we already have daycare arrangements for Parker beginning in the late summer / early autumn. There are more employment opportunities here for Phil and Harriet will commute by train/bus to St Andrew's and Dundee as required for her PhD. We will try this for a while and re-evaluate later if it makes more sense to move north to the Fife area.
