News

Awesome news to start of this series of postings to our blog! I have accepted a full-time job working in Dundee that is a wonderful marriage of my academic background (a Masters in Criminology) and my experience with business improvement/efficiency (with TELUS). I am so thankful, relieved, excited, and happy with this development as it means a jumpstart to my professional career after a 3 year break to be a stay-at-home dad. Believe me, our whole family did a "happy dance" in the kitchen when I received the good news!

It also means that our finances will be considerably healthier while Harriet completes a doctorate degree and makes it likely that we will move from Edinburgh this summer (once the kid's school year has completed) about an hour north to Tayside to be closer to work and Harriet's university & research. I am looking forward to begin on March 23rd and will commute by train daily during the week until our family moves. We may even look to buy a modest residence in a good neighbourhood since housing prices and mortgage rates have dropped considerably over the past year. Anyone reading this who is unfamiliar with Dundee can check out the link on the right. YEAH!!!

Harriet received confirmation of funding to conduct detailed brain scanning for her PhD research. This is great since it will mean more data, a larger study group, and more reliability to extend or generalize results across to larger populations.

Phil took a 1 day tour with the "Rabbie's Trailburners Company" into the southern edge of the Scottish Highlands (into Crieff & Aberfeldy) visiting Scotland's oldest whiskey distillery Glenturret, an area forested with Douglas Fir Trees called the Hermitage, and Dunkeld. Super fun!
