Easter at Traquair House
We celebrated Easter this year by taking the kids to Traquair House about an hour south of Edinburgh. This is the oldest residence in Scotland and as such has a lot of history tied to it. Among the more famous stories ... Bonnie Prince Charlie and his army stayed there briefly. When departing to head south to attack England, the Traquair house famous Bear Gates were closed after the army marched through. The governing Lord (Laird) at the time promised that the gates would stay closed until there was a Stewart king upon the throne of England ... they still have not been re-opened to this day and traffic must arrive via the rear of the property. The boys liked taking part in scavenger hunts, easter egg hunts through labyrinths and there were a number of really cool artisan shops, a restaurant, and a great micro-brewery. Check out the link on the right.
