Well today marked a milestone in my life. I woke up this morning no longer in my thirties ... I am now forty-something (well ok just plain forty). I find myself comfortably slipping into my forties and without any mid-life crisis ... I figure I already had a healthy mid-life crisis a number of years ago anyways (stay-at-home dad and yoga teacher). Besides, I have an awesome family, decent health, a job that I enjoy.
My colleagues at work decorated my desk and we all got together over tea/coffee and a birthday cake. Harriet decorated the house after I fell asleep last night so I woke up to a pleasant surprise. This morning before we went out she baked a cake (usually that's my job) and is now making a special dinner - roasted leg of lamb stuffed with currents, creme de cassis, almonds and prunes (prunes since I am old now) and with a balsamic vinegar, honey, basil sauce ... yumm! I am writing this blog while sitting with a special glass of french wine (Chateauneuf du Pape ... pulling out all the stops on my birthday).
We took Parker this morning to a birthday party for his best friend Ben. Then we all went to the cinema and for a light lunch. Tonight after the special dinner, we are celebrating in true Scottish tradition ... there is a family ceilidh (Scottish party with dancing and music) in our community of Broughty Ferry at a church hall. We are all putting on our kilts and going to do some Scottish country dancing (it is a riot and Parker in particular loves it).
Best wishes to all.
Phil
